This handcrafted Japanese teapot is made and hand-painted by Shinichi Yamada, a ceramic artist based in Fukushima. Finished in a soft celadon glaze with fine crackle, the rounded form is balanced by a gently curved spout and ergonomic handle. The hand-painted horse motif is 左馬 (Hidari-Uma)—a traditional symbol of good fortune. Because the character for horse (馬) is reversed, it is believed that happiness and wealth “run toward you.”
After losing nearly everything in the 2012 earthquake, Yamada rebuilt Ikariya Kiln from the ground up. This teapot carries both quiet resilience and timeless beauty.
