Hakuei (白影), meaning “white shadow,” captures the quiet dialogue between light and depth. Handcrafted at Shinko Kiln, each bowl reflects generations of ceramic tradition shaped by skilled hands. The soft ivory glaze carries subtle grey undertones, forming a gentle shadow beneath the rim. Delicate crackle (kannyu) spreads across the surface, adding quiet movement and refined texture.
The unglazed foot reveals the warmth of natural clay, grounding the piece with understated strength. When filled with matcha, the vibrant green appears luminous against its calm white interior.
Due to the natural crackle glaze, tea may gradually permeate the surface over the years of use. This gentle aging is part of the bowl’s character and beauty. Before use, briefly soak the bowl in water; after use, wash it promptly to maintain its condition.
Balanced, serene, and timeless, Hakuei invites a contemplative pause—where shadow softens light, and simplicity becomes elegance.
